Fungi (in the garden)

I was bemoaning the fact that even thought it has been quite wet, I hadn’t seen many fungi. For quite a number of weeks it rained most days, with occasional bursts of sunshine that were warm to hot. Did I mention humid. One day it reached 31C, the day before and day after were wet and in the low 20C’s

The first little fungi I found were a small yellow umbrella and some small puff balls among some gravel that I though at first were white stones. Then I noticed someone had taken a few bites out of one

You can tell how small it is by the size of the blades of grass

A couple of days later, on the grass outside the front there were so many of these tiny brown most beautifully textured brown fungi. Blade of grass measuring again 😁

I had to try and get the two little dark fungi growing under the brown ones. Two days later and they are shrivelled white

Hands up who thinks I touched this oozing mass of wood fungus? It actually looks grosser in real life.

The white cap gave this one away among the wet dark mulch

Very hard to get a good photo of this one in the dark location.

I found this growing in a plant pot in the garden. It is quite tiny. I thought it might open up and look similar to the one I saw earlier ⬆️

What a golden colour these one are

The early stages of a wood fungus emerging.

I went away for a day and before I went, spied this fungi growing on a tall stalk

When I came home today, the cap had opened and is nearly 100mm or 4 inches in diameter

I had to see what it looked like underneath

So much for not having many fungi about

The Crown (of doors)

Dan’s Thursday Doors

One of my quests has been to get some photos of the Crown Hotel, in particular the older part. The original Crown Hotel was built in the 1850’s and burnt down in 1929. The front door is the existing 1929 part. I have snuck in once and took a few quick photos but none looking back towards the wonderful doors and stained glass windows.

The hotel is right on the Clarence River. The river side of the hotel has been renovated so the deck overlooking the river is bigger and the inside bar areas have re-done to the latest regulations

I have taken a photo of the outside as it had so many stickers and signs it looked quite ugly. Thankfully the owners decided to clean the front up.
