Pillow (a creature comfort)

FOWC: Pillow

On a pillow
there he sat.
Riding past on
a horse called Pat.
I looked back
it was a rat.

Doors (of my childhood)

Dan’s Thursday Doors

Last year I went to Sydney to look at the Sculptures by the Sea Exhibition. While I was there I took the opportunity to visit the places of my childhood. The saddest thing was the change that had taken place. It no longer seemed to be a friendly nieghbourhood where in my day, everyone owned their own home and there was only one house that was rented.

This is the front door of the house I was born and raised in. I cried when I saw the state of the house, Dad would have been mortified and the gardens no longer exist, Mums disappointment.

I went around the corner to the church I was sent to every Sunday and enjoyed the companionship of my friends and were considered an unruly and unholy bunch of teens. The church is no longer an Anglican church, some hybrid religion as the majority of people in the suburb are Tongan and Islander people. The church wasn’t open which is disappointing as I would have liked to see what the interior is like now.

By the way here is what the old front door to home looks like now. It is my front door, as is the screen door, rescued when Dad did some renovations and Mum wanted a new front door and screen.
