Sadness of losing Bren

I like many others have been saddened by the passing of our blog family member Bren of Brashley Photography

Like many others I was inspired by her love of flowers and for me, was the love of Monochrome images with her challenge of Mid-Week Monochrome. Bren really challenged me to produce better B&W photos and this also was added to by Leanne Cole who made it a double weekly monochrome challenge.

I thought a slideshow would be best as I can’t decide on the flowers I want to post so I hope you understand.

I should do the same for my monochromes too I guess.

Late last year when we hadn’t seen any posts from Bren, I wrote to see how she was going. At the time there was a lot going on in her life so I just guessed she was busy. Her reply was the first installment from her Bacardi Girl site of her discovery of cancer. This floored me and by the time the last post written by her son, I knew that things weren’t going to be good.

I don’t drink Bacardi but I am sure you will join me in raising a glass to a good friend to say goodbye.

PS I contacted Bren earlier via email and not heard back yet. She has had a few things going on taking up all of her time, that’s why we haven’t seen a post for a while. When I find out how she is going I’ll let you know.

During last years walk in the Gibraltar Ranges National Park to see the Waratahs flowering, I also found a bit more to photograph as well. Not only were the Waratahs in flowering glory but so many other plants were doing well. The fire of December 2019 laid the whole mountain bare of vegetation so it was so lovely to find that there has been a good recovery commencing.

One of the first to return were Tree Ferns and three years later they were al growing well. Many of Australians flora are adapted to fire and some require fire or smoke for the seeds to germinate.

This is a classic Tree Fern frond curling photo.

This week I decided to do something a bit different. I love Paper daisies and when I converted one to Monochrome, I was unsure, so I did another.

Do you have a preference?
