In the garden (on the phone)

John’s Cellpic Sunday

I don’t use my phone camera much at all and need to use it to get better. I decided to go into the garden and take a few flower photos. There are small patches of colour everywhere at the moment.

Here is a sample of the flowers in my garden. I didn’t do a Marigold seed raising this year. Thankfully the flowers from last year did a good job in the garden bed. Only the yellow ones though.

I planted an Allamanda vine near the shed so long ago I cannot remember when. It hasn’t flowered well but this year it bucked the trend and sent out about three flowers.

The first flower on this Hibiscus grown from a cutting. I have another one that is rather stunted as Possums go to it every year and eat it but didn’t munch this one?

I bought some plants at a local nursery where I go most of the time for plants as they have a great range of Australian native plants. I saw a six pot tray of Cosmos that looked very sad. I thought they needed a home even though they were not in the plan. It pays to be a regular customer as she gave me the Cosmos plants. Some died but most survived.

This has been the best year for Cats Whiskers, one of my favourite garden flowers.

No Buttercups but lets sing about them anyway

Addendum – I found a pack of Marigold seed and planted then in a seed tray. marigolds for everyone in a week or so

        1. I just have a problem carrying an SLR with me. Having difficulty with my back and knees. So no choice but to use my phone when I am out and about. Have a good day Brian.

  1. I glanced over the comments first (or rather the one comment that wordpress showed me on the preview) and I expected real cat’s whiskers. As good as your photos are (and they are!) – I feel cheated.

  2. I had never even heard of cat’s whiskers and I think they’re great! This is a nice collection of photos. Like you, I am hoping the marigolds volunteer from last year. When we moved into this house it was the end of the season, and marigolds were growing in profusion. We were too busy to do any kind of gardening, so all of the flowers went to seed. Fingers crossed that we have them sprouting up everywhere in a couple months. So marvelous that you rescued the Cosmos. They are a simple flower but I just love them.

    1. Cat’s Whiskers is a wonderful plant once it gets going and flowers for a long time too. You should have Marigolds for sure even if they revert to type they are still lovely flowers. My companion planting book I bought 30 years ago probably said for a successful garden, plant Marigoilds and Garlic to help with pests.

  3. My relatively new phone camera is an ‘in emergencies only’ alternative. I’m still happy to carry my camera around. Looks like your garden is doing well and I’m a fan of the cat’s whiskers too.

  4. The Hibiscus is very pretty and I really like the Cats Whiskers. I got a deal on a rosebush the end of the year and I got it for a dollar. That little “Dream Cloud” shrub rose has bloomed every year, where other “name brands” like Jackson & Perkins bit the dust long ago.
