A bit punk (or a crest)

Bird of the Week: LXVI

This week the Crested Pigeon.
I have shown you all of my Dove photos so I thought, let’s do the pigeons. The White-headed Pigeon was a while ago and I only have a few different Pigeons around here, so this foray into Pigeons won’t take many posts.

Crested Pigeons are found almost everywhere in Australia, common in towns and cities

Most of the plumage is grey-brown, becoming more pink on the underparts. The wings are barred with black, and are decorated with glossy green and purple patches. The head is grey, with an pinkish-red ring around the eye.

A closer look at the different colours on the wings

The rest of the wings are lovely as well.

The Crested Pigeon’s diet consists mostly of native seeds, as well as those of introduced crops and weeds. Some leaves and insects are also eaten.

Feeding can be in small to large groups and also congregate to drink at waterholes. Birds arrive in nearby trees, and often sit for long periods before descending to drink.
Even a Crested Pigeon can have a bad hair day.

Small and blue (open to treasure)

Becky’s #SquaresRenew

I love Blue Ginger plants and flowers. So do bees. The colour blue changes from blue to almost a deep purple. Some of my plants are over three metres tall. Planted in a shady, damp place beside my shade-house, they have grown tall to reach the sun.
No I didn’t have to find a ladder for these photos as I have plants in various locations and pots around the garden

New buds. Looking directly on top of the florets.

They open up to reveal a wonderful yellow inside with a pinkish throat
