Lens-Artists Challenge #183: Memorable Events
I have been trying to think of something for this challenge. I have something that will always stick in my mind.
Almost ten years ago I convinced my bestie to travel with me to Europe. I had been a few years before and just had to go back and find some new places and re visit some places I had been before.
We took off from Australia, travelling via South Korea, we landed in Rome at midnight. A driver picked us up and we went to our accommodation, a Wimdu shared place. Wimdu was an AirBnB type of accommodation finder. The people were lovely and Alba and Mauritsio welcomed us into their home.
The next day we caught the bus to the city centre and once at the Termini, we started walking. We stopped at the Basilica Papale di Santa Maria Maggiore and then walked on.
Rounding the corner there was the Colosseum. I shall never forget the look on her face when she first saw this wonderful building. This shall live with me forever .
Awesome photo

I’m with you on that. The Colosseum struck me dumb the first time I saw it and I still go to see it every time I’m in Rome. There is nothing more awe-inspiring in the world than the remains of this once great stadium and a few hours there listening inside your head to the shouts of the populace and the roar of the wild beasts in the ground below is something you’ll get nowhere else.

I can totally relate. Now, just imagine that you lived 2000 years ago, in a small village, not that far away from Rome but 50km then was a long way. Anyway you’ve never been to the city and the only building you know are one story buildings, your own dwelling is more of a hovel. And THEN you are faced with the Colloseum. It must have been mind blowing!!

and having to sit in the shitty seats but it would have been worthwhile.

Better than in the middle as part of the show.

Never turn left as you enter the Colosseum, that passageway is a killer

Ah, some of us just live for those moments…to create them and watch them unfold! What a lovely take on, Brian – and of course I always love Rome!
