I took the liberty of editing Sarah’s brilliant photo. Head to the above link and have a look please,
I had words floating around and Sarah’s photo didn’t quite fit what I had in mind. Plus I wanted to play around with the photo too

It’s been a while now
memories of Grandfather
reduced down to a faded photo
his favourite chair he called Chester
bought new with the money
the sale of the vineyard
He had to have one of the oak barrels
a statement piece he called it
in the way we called it
how many times did he ask
someone bring me my stick
how many times did someone say
it’s in the stand next to that damned barrel
The things remembered looking at a photo
one look and nothing is faded
even though, it’s been a while now.

I’ve a feeling you’ve really conjured up your grandad in that poem and that re-jigged photo.

Thanks Margaret, a fictional Grandfather. Mine never drank and would have cut the barrel up and made a whole lot of things 😂
