Colour says it all

Lens-Artists Challenge #195: Colourful Expressions

Is the colour you like bold or subdued. Should a photo stand out on it’s own or blend the colours? Does it sit at the front or stay in the back for someone to discover? I think I like colour. My house is colourful and my garden is colourful.

I don’t know where to start or what I am doing but lets see where this post takes you and me.

Let’s kick off with selective colour, one of my favourite effects

A fluffy Eastern Yellow Robins yellow just stands out more

Just the red on a Black Jezebel butterfly stands out

A leaf stuck on a window after a storm looked interesting but more so with selective colour I feel

Red always stands out

But can also be subtle

But is never missed

Green can be quite fluorescent

or just be a hint of colour

Some blues are hello

but also quiet

It’s a hello yellow

or try to find me in the grass

or among the trees

A pink to catch the eye

or to gently cascade

and be small and dainty

or pop out among the others

As Anne said the colours in rust are a favourite

Small and white a discovery

or be a showy presence in the garden

and have a subtle blend

with pastels and strong green to stand out

and a mix of colours that attract the eye

or add colour to a dull day

But a riot of colours that make you look more than once is always a favourite

Well that was a bit of a long post but I hope you enjoyed a bit of the colours in my life or actually in bushboys world

Pink #6

My sixth photo for Becky’s square photo challenge: In the Pink

We were tickled pink to be first in the yacht race until the bigger yachts opened their spinnakers

If you want to join in here are a few ideas from Becky.

The theme for squares this month is ‘In the Pink‘ and the one rule as always is that your main photograph must be square. After that the world is your oyster, or should I say flamingo?! To help you get started here are some ideas you might want to consider;

  1. In the Pink’ – means perfect condition or in good health, so that could be human or not!
  2. Tickled Pink‘ – means delighted, so I’m thinking happy, fun and of course delighted. That could be you or the subject of your photograph.
  3. Pink – you can of course simply share anything that is coloured pink
  4. There is an extra challenge for those of you up for it – can you manage to combine two of these, or maybe even all three?

Squares is a daily challenge, so your photographs can be from the archives or brand new. Don’t forget though to keep your photo square, and to pingback with #InthePink.

Thursdays Special: Pick a Word in September

Most times I just have one photo per word for Lost in Translations Pick a Word. This time I have a few more for the September Pick a Word and perhaps using my artistic licence for the matching photo.

Vantage

The view from Raspberry Lookout. My property is a few hills over on the left.

In order to get a good take off, you must have a good vantage point.

Intruding

Sometimes I feel like I am intruding when photographing butterflies and spiders.

Yes, the Huntsman Spiders were in the dining room but I don’t think they had eating dinner on their mind.

Jagged

Once a butterfly gets old, the jagged wings are the first sign of age as on this Australian Gull Butterfly

Here they come

Frank has chosen Pink as the theme for the Tuesday Photo Challenge. I was going to recycle the paint can but I thought I must have some other pink here somewhere, other than flowers.

I took this photo with an old camera as I wasn’t too sure about taking my best camera aboard the yacht. We were leading the final race home after about 10 days of sailing from Grafton to Iluka on the Clarence River. Suddenly a breeze blew up and all the larger yachts put their spinnakers up and came zooming up behind us. It looked great from our little boat. Unfortunately the wind died and everyone was becalmed so the race was cancelled.

Don’t the yachts look great with their coloured sails?
