Welcome to the wrap up of my November. It was a rather weird month for me, full of ups and downs. I didn’t take that many photos. Of course this is also part of The Changing Seasons. The details are at the end of this post.

The month was one of change. The first two weeks were almost constant rain, then the rain stopped and the sun came out. Almost overnight the ground dried and the grass started to turn brown, trees started dropping leaves and plants in the garden didn’t take long to droop.

So let’s get going into my November Tale and please enjoy a song while you have a look at my November

I’ll start with the best of #WalkingSquares as most of my photos were for Becky. These photos are the ones that you commented on.

The following photos are others that I set aside for my November wrap. I hope you enjoy these as well

I was pleased to see one of the Red-necked Wallabies in the garden with an over sized pouch. The little one didn’t poke its head out though.

I love how these berries change colour from almost white when they first appear to purple to a dark blue. Lots of birds like them. Not sure of the name of the bush they belong to

There were lots of what I think are Pink Fingers flowers in the garden. They enjoyed the wet first part of November

Native Frangipanni flowers added a lovely scent to the air especially in the morning and afternoon. The flowers start white and as they age, they turn yellow.

The Giant Salvia flowered quite well. Undoubtedly due to the rain. The plants grew to over three metres!!!

I went to the Granite Lookout as I heard the Waratahs were flowering. I wasn’t disappointed. There was splashed of red everywhere at the lookout.

Along the track, the White Tall Everlasting Paper Daisies were flowering everywhere

Meanwhile in Grafton, the Jacaranda Festival was in full swing. I love the contrast of the purple flowers against the grey leaden sky. The day I went in to see the festivities it poured with rain as I arrived and after escaping to a cafe for a coffee, the rain had gone

As I was looking at the cars, a Magpie suddenly appeared and was chasing a beetle (not the car type) and managed to get a snack right in front of me

After the rain had gone the weather warmed up for the last two weeks of November bringing the flies out. This must be the shiniest fly I have ever seen.

A monthly wrap up wouldn’t be the same without an Eastern Yellow Robin making an appearance. I love how they sit on the trunk of a tree. One of my favourite birds in my garden.

In late October I could hear the Wonga Pigeons call in the bush. One day one strolled through the garden.

When the weather warmed up, the Dragonflies seemed to be everywhere.

Well the sun is going down after a stormy day so I better get going.

Walking Squares #24 – In the garden

This months squares has been fun. Unfortunately I have been unable to post as much as I usually do and feel I have let Becky down.

I have had a busy day, actually a busy week so far, so I haven’t taken many photos. This afternoon I was getting the washing in and spotted a Swamp Bluet Damselfly in the garden. Luckily it stayed around while I went for my camera

I hope that everyone’s fabulous walking photos have helped you Becky as you take this part of your life head on. I wish there was more I could do to help ease this unfathomable pain you are feeling. I am always here for you ❤❤

Walking Squares #22 – Landcare, a resort and the beach

The last few days I have been totally immersed in my Regional Landcare Network Gathering. There were people from all over the north coast from Port Macquarie in the south to Tweed Heads in the north and out to the tablelands in the west.

It was held at Aanuka Resort in Coffs Harbour which is central to the region. The resort has great rooms for conferences, capacity to have around fifty people and a restaurant. There were presentations by the local Landcare Co-ordinators plus other invited guests plus a lot of brainstorming sessions to set our goals for the next four years which is our funding cycle.

This is a short post as I didn’t have time to wander about with my camera, so lets walk on by

Walking Squares #21 – A shed, swans and a flower

Today I went to have a look at the block of land my daughter bought downriver at Lawrence. It was lovely to spend some time. I didn’t think I would see any of the ski boats and skiers today. I saw a few boats as I drove along side of the Clarence River pelting along dragging their skiers. No photos today though.

On the way back I stopped at the spot where the Black Swans were last time I went to Lawrence. They were there so the walk was short but a walk never the less.

A bit before where I could stop and get a few Black Swan photos is an old shed, possibly part of dairy bails as the lower river area was mainly dairying country. I had to walk back to get this photo

Oh no, you are not getting my photo. I’m heading over the other side of the river.

That’s OK, we don’t mind the occasional photo shoot

In the garden, just near where I parked, they had a lovely display of Bird of Paradise flowers

Yes I know this one isn’t square.
For those following along on the gate building project, these are a similar design to the ones I am making. Being on level ground and sturdy fencing either side, this gate is one big gate and able to open easily. I took the photo as I may have to redesign my gates as I originally only had one bracing board on one side. Luckily I have enough leftover timber to add another diagonal bracing board.

Walking Squares #20 – Superman, a river and a weather vane

Becky’s #WalkingSquares

Saturday is a go to town day for me. I get a few groceries I need, plus have a browse, window shop and enjoy a coffee at the cafe in the art gallery. This weekend in Grafton is the Bridge to Bridge race. There are some rather large ski boats around the streets and a few in the water. I went to the river to see if any practice action was still happening. The actual race is tomorrow.

While I was hanging waiting for some boats to appear, I noticed a rooster weather vane on a nearby house. I have been trying to find one around the Clarence Valley for quite a while. Quest achieved

As I parked the car, I could hear a couple of boats roar up the river. By the time I was there, some of those boats were just putting back to the boat ramp. This time Superman wasn’t so super.

And then there was a roar of an engine and from downstream a boat appeared travelling very fast. I should have changed my camera settings to get a better photo of the action.
On that line coming from the rear of the boat are two water skiers. The ski rope must be at least twenty metres long. I couldn’t get the skiers and the boat in the same shot.

I couldn’t resist playing with the photo of the skiers a little bit. The photo was rather crap but I think this edit makes it much better. The top of the photo is the reflection of vegetation on the water

This walk is going back a few years when on a holiday in Tasmania. What prompted me to do this post was a few days ago when I used my shadow photo.

I guess we better get down on the beach

The beach was quite a long one but the walk wasn’t all that far

The setting Sun on a warm October day

Every one liked my long legs so I thought I would have a friend join me and you can now have double the enjoyment. The setting sun is the best time to get that long leg feeling

Among the dunes, the Pig Face was flowering

The colourful rocks of the Bay of Fires. The red is a lichen that grows on the granite rocks

There was a Pacific Gull hanging out on the rocks

Walking Squares #18 – Timber and insects

Today was another day spent doing the walk from the shed to the house. It was a productive day. I have cut all of the timber into the lengths I need to make the gates.

So today I was walking like a man

Here are the last two planks of timber to be cut and the workings. My Makita Drop-Saw has been used to build my house and many a project. It was a bit tired by the end of today but a clean up and service will see it ready for the next project.

Hopefully the next time you see these pieces of wood, they will look a lot different.

While going back and forth sometimes something pops up.

The Sun really lit up the cross on the St Andrews Cross Spiders web.

I knew someone was watching me. Possibly a Splendid Ochre Butterfly but I am not one hundred percent sure

Thankfully I did a major clean up and cover the unused timber as it rained in the evening. The garden needed a good watering.

Walking Squares #17 – Decisions and a Shadow

Today was another doing day as well as a not much as the heat of the day sent me inside.

I didn’t take many photos. In the late afternoon I heard a Tawny Frogmouth in the bush near the house so I went to see if I could find it. The Frogmouth was deep into bush unfortunately otherwise todays photo would have been a lot different.

Here I am deciding what needs doing in the late afternoon. Watering the garden won out

Walking Squares #16 – Timber, a shed and the future

Today was a doing day, so most of the walking was done between the shed and the house. Insert – cups of tea, lunch and water stops.
I have been storing this timber for a while. When I bought it, the timber was newly cut from a tree, so I let it dry out before using it. Plus the rain over a lot of the year has delayed the gate project.

Anyway it’s time to turn turn turn

So what was I doing for good part of the day. I was turning this timber into my new front gates

Walking Squares #15 – Pumps. taps and tanks

I have been quite slack with my Walking Squares. Usually a daily squares person, this month just hasn’t been right and not much walking has been done that has been photo worthy.

This morning I had brunch with my daughter, did a bit of shopping and by the time I arrived home, it was very warm so it was stay inside for the afternoon. Around 5pm a cooling breeze blew up and the garden needed watering plus the header tank was almost empty so a pump up the hill to the tank was wanted.

This walk started by going over to the pump, remembering last time I didn’t top up the fuel tank, so a detour to the shed for some petrol and a funnel. Pump fueled, a pull of the starter rope and away it went. Now into the garden and put out all of the sprinklers on to various parts of the garden. Once I’ve set out all four sprinklers I go around and reset again, then walk up the hill to see how full the tank has gotten.

I go up the hill to the header tank around three times while the pump is going to check where the water level was up to. So not a walk far away from home but a good walk around the garden and up and down the hill.

Finished as the sun was getting low. Didn’t manage to get the whole garden watered so will have to give the garden a good soak tomorrow
