Ready to roll

Dans Thursday Doors

At the moment there is a lot of road work on the highway. The constant rain and large trucks don’t give the highway much chance.
The irony is most of the damage is done by trucks carting gravel for road repair.

This road roller was parked at the intersection of my road and the highway

  1. It is indeed ironic that it’s the repair vehicles that also cause road damage. Here in South Africa, the once efficient railways is no longer an option for carting heavy loads so we have to deal with too many huge trucks on our roads. They cause enormous wear and tear making some of our roads a nightmare to travel because of the unfixed potholes. Also getting behind a row of those freight trucks makes the journey more stressful.

    1. Yes, rail freight should have been retained here as well. The only thing that is sent by train now is coal.
The quarry is near my place and going to town if I encounter a gravel truck it adds about 10 minutes to my travel time. They go up the big hills at 20kph 🙄

  2. Road construction/repair is a sure sign of summer. That’s a slick little roller. I remember several years ago when the I-35W bridge in Minneapolis collapsed after they piled construction material on it. It was under-designed, but it had held up to traffic.
