Getting about (on the water)

CFFC: Bridges and Ferries

Over the past few weeks I have posted lots of bridges so this weeks CFFC is all ferries

In case you didn’t know, this is a ferry

They come is all sizes. The ferry that travels around the islands in Moreton bay carries cars and trucks

and there’s the smaller motorised passenger

As well as the huge trucks

Some people like to travel through Paris on the ferry

Or face the wild water of Port Stephens on a stormy day

The modern way of getting around Sydney Harbour

The modern way to get to Manly beach

The inner harbour ferries ply their trade

Getting around the harbour on the smaller ferries

A three iconic Sydney Harbour photo. A Manly Ferry, the Sydney Harbour Bridge and in the background, Luna Park

  1. I do love ferries. Back in Washington State they were widely used to link the various islands and outlying districts. Mind you, they could make it a real challenge trying to get to appointments.

      1. I’ve missed ferries by a matter of minutes, and caught ferries that had to turn back because the water was too rough. It’s fun when it goes well though.

  2. That’s a lot of different types of ferries. They use ferries to get on/off Mackinac Island in Michigan, though you can get there by a vehicular bridge that is 5 miles/8 kilometers long. They had issues a few years ago and stopped running, which was a hardship, but they are back in business again.
