Nice door. It’s going to need some TLC soon.

I think so as well

Looks like it has served well for a long time. Great photo.

Thanks Dan. The door has probably been there since the early 1900’s

Good and solid

Yes, solid indeed Sue

A classic-looking door. That box on the upper right is very unfortunately placed.

That box is the electricity meter and fuses. It’s where they placed them in the early days of electricity so they were under cover.

I thought it must be something like that.

Great choice of door, Brian. I like all the windows framing it. I don’t recall seeing a door with those extra narrow windows on the bottom row. That’s interesting. Hugs.

Thanks Teagan 😀 I think those little windows drew my attention to the door

Excellent photo Brian. Great capture of reflections in the door’s glass panes. A unique door style. I like it!

Thanks Suzette. I am so happy you like this door, I do as well

You are most welcome, Brian. Cheers.

The narrow edges around where the windows is barely wide enough to accommodate the door knocker. Usually it would be under the window, but then you’d have to bend down to reach it.

The knocker is a modern addition . Older ones were smaller

I thought the knocker was a tad big – it’s like my front door. I have to have a small wreath because too big of a wreath overwhelms not only the door but the house which is also small.

I never understand the wreath thing in the US.
Over here wreaths are used in funerals and war commemoration ceremonies or other things associated with death

Wreaths are a big thing here – some have the same wreath all year around, others for each big holiday. In the past I have seen businesses use a wreath on the entrance door to signify the death of the business owner.

But why wreaths on the front door?

My only guess is that wreaths are to welcome people or for curb appeal. People paint their front doors all kinds of non-traditional colors now, like yellow or black; burgundy and red front doors were big a few years ago, likely for curb appeal. I remember we had a wreath on our door in Canada, but just at Christmastime, so I guess it was a “thing” even then (mid-1960s). Do Australians decorate the outside of their homes at Christmastime? People here go all out stringing lights and with lighted displays for Christmas – even for Halloween. Some are tasteful, others just over-the-top and gaudy.
People using those inflatable decorations all over the place … I’m not a fan of those either.
I’ve never had lights or decorations out front. No electrical outlet and I don’t want cords all over and besides, some people get their decorations stolen or vandalized … I don’t see that happening on my street, but it is everywhere, other cities, even affluent cities/towns.

Yep. There are those who decorate their houses at Christmas. Some more OTT than others

That’s funny! I’ve passed some homes in my walks or driving around that have multiple inflatables – really OTT. And in the morning, when I walk, some are collapsed in heaps as they’re on timers.

Firefox as of today – plus I did updates which seemed to cure the ill of the audio crackling on the Windows 11. Every time I switched tabs if I had audio on, it crackled like a vintage radio.

That is also the speakers. I use big speakers so computer audio is off

I was concerned to do the updates because there was an article that the correction to the most-recent update was causing crashes and big problems, so I set aside time in case of an issue. I turn off updates so they don’t launch automatically ever since Windows 10 was forced on me overnight by Microsoft, despite me putting it over a few days. Sneaky-sneaky.

Using old versions of Windows also can cause problems

I hated to give up my Windows 7 but I still have it and just did a Malwarebytes scan on it this morning … I have my original 2009 laptop with all my pictures on it from the last 10 years. I never use the laptops unplugged, so they last forever, except for using WordPress … last July Windows 7 was no longer compatible.

I took a while to change to Windows 10. I think I am using 11 now 🤔

I’m not keen on having to get a new laptop every time Microsoft changes their operating system. I thought about getting a Mac, but decided on Windows 11. I wanted Windows 11 because Windows 12 was supposed to be out by back-to-school time 2024 and was full of AI delights, which AI delights I decided I didn’t need. Then Microsoft changed the launch date of Windows 12 to the Fall of this year instead. I have a Windows 10 Dell laptop my boss bought for each of us, but I preferred Windows 7 and just did updates and virus scans on the Windows 10 – I like HP laptops as I’ve always had luck with them. I keep it as a backup computer – Windows 10 will not be supported after October this year, but my Windows 7 laptop has not been supported with updates for many years, so I carried strong virus protection (paid-version of Malwarebytes), so was confident of not getting hacked. But I did get a more robust Malwarebytes protection for this Windows 11 laptop as I have AT&T phone landline and AT&T cellphone and AT&T had a massive data breach last year and is not taking care of its customers by offering a credit monitoring service as is customary. There’s enough hacking and scamming going on as it is without this data breach on top of it.

Good to have protection if all your stuff is on there.
I don’t want AI stuff

Yes, that’s what I thought. I don’t want AI stuff either; that’s why I hurried up and got the Windows 11. I’ve used AI through WordPress for a fun picture of a scarecrow typing on a computer and that was fun, but I think blogging is about your own creations, art/photography/writing, so AI takes from that. Last week CoPilot (which I don’t use) did an update on its own, not part of the Windows updates I did yesterday. All of a sudden I had a pop-up on my screen “Hi Linda, I’m here to navigate you through CoPilot.” I decided to exit out of that … a bit creepy.

I don’t intent to communicate with it either. I found it invasive!

This is true … so is when people put cardboard boxes at the curb on garbage pickup day that scream big-screen TV. We have “March Madness” college basketball going on right now until early April. Walking through the neighborhood last Monday I saw countless big-screen TV boxes. I’m too cautious about things I guess. As to TVs, my TV is from the 1990s, has not been turned on for about 15 years. I stream anything I watch (which is not a lot).

I like this door. It’s different and looks like it lets in a nice amount of light. Good finds.
