Lunch (in Tenterfield)

Dans CFFC: Suggesting Lunch and/or Dinner

Once more Wayne and I were on a road trip. Stopping for lunch at my favourite Tenterfield cafe, The Corner Cafe.
What to have for lunch. What would you have?

Unfortunately I forgot to take the photos until half way through our lunch

Wayne had a BLAT and his favourite coffee, a Long Black and he gets a small jug of milk so he can add just the right amount of milk he likes.

I had the Sweet Chilli Chicken Wrap and a Flat White Coffee. They cut the toasted wrap in half otherwise it wouldn’t fit on the plate

Of course, as in most Australian cafes, you get chips. Their chips are so good. Triple fried, crunchy on the outside and soft and creamy in the middle 😋

  1. I was thinking of the chili chicken wrap, and once I saw it, I was convinced. Those fries look delicious. I applaud Wayne for getting the milk just right. I almost always buy a small bottle of milk when I travel so I can fix the coffee the way I like it. I get it from the hotel’s breakfast area, but bring it back to the room (unless they have a pitcher of milk or cream).

    1. The burgers are filling too. I love how somewhere in the 1960’s pineapple on stuff and of course it was called Hawaiian. It made the food sound exotic to us way over here when no one could afford to get to Hawaii.
Great marketing by the Australian pineapple growers

        1. The first pineapples in can (1947) were by a company called Golden Circle, the name said it all.
Now a days Pineapple products now account for only 24% of the company’s total product range

  2. I don’t have enough time to choose. Yes, I’m the person who can never decide. With many menus being online these days, I try to have an idea before I arrive. 🙂 As far as chips are concerned, if they’re not crisp/crunchy on the outside and soft/fluffy on the inside, I want no part of them!!

When I saw your title, quickly in passing, I saw “Tenterfield” as tenterhooks, which would have been interesting. I’m always on tenterhooks deciding what to order. 🙂

  3. We have often been in Tenterfield, once for a spell holed up for days when road back to Brisbane was closed in Feb / March of 2022. Yes, due to floods! A good town, we also enjoyed the coffee and food at the outdoor grazing place called “Bad Manners”

  4. The Chicken Schnitzel sounds good to me, although German in an Australian cafe, maybe not? Maybe a big plate of those fries that you describe and I wouldn’t mind some right now.

    1. Australia does chicken schnitzel very well.
It is a pub staple and most have a “schnittie nite” where they are the special dish and cheaper.
Another pub favourite is a chicken parmie schnitzel

      1. Interesting! See I was thinking it was strictly a German dish. The chicken parmie schnitzel is something I would like too. I grew up in Canada and our fries were called chips – they looked like yours and we ate them sprinkled with malt vinegar. I never had ketchup or salt on fries until we moved here to the States.

        1. I’ve never had the gravy and chips (and cheese curds are in that dish too) as poutine was not a fad when I still lived and/or visited Canada. I’ve not been to Canada since 1990. Try ranch dressing on your chips sometime – it’s also tasty.
