Dan’s Thursday Doors
The first stop on my recent road trip was Inverell. Had enough time for lunch and a walk around the town.
One of the first things I saw was this Post Office pillar style mailing box that were used in the mid 1800’s. They were made from cast iron. Unfortunately the door is on the other side but you can see the outline of the hinges.

A stylish building

The Council Offices not only had great doors bit the windows were good as well

These door looked familiar. I saw similar doors on a bookshop in Glen Innes

Even the inserts were the same but in a better condition.

The Court House, a great shade of pink

Here’s the whole building

That Court House looks imposing, despite being pink!

It is rather grand for other court houses around the area

Wonderful buildings, Brian. I love that pink color, and I find the various ways they deal with placing handrails in these entrances interesting. ?I do like that giant transom window and the old mailbox.

Thanks Dan. The curved handrail on the municipal building I think may have been a later addition for a ramp for disabled access

That makes sense.

There’s that post office box again. 🙂 I like it even better as a door post. The door with the beautiful inserts makes me think of kitchen doors inside a restaurant, isn’t that funny. In that one I see more of the art deco that you mentioned before. I notice you catch a lot of architecture with curves – such as with the top photos. That must catch your eye, as it does mine.

Thanks. I do prefer shapes rather than straight line mostly. Straight lines give great angles, circles give great shapes. It’s a bit ying yang I guess.
I should see if there’s some sort of organisation or company who first owned/built the buildings as both doors were identical, only the Glen Innes door insert was in need of a bit of TLC.
Had to sneak the post office box in again, some Thursday Doors people wouldn’t have seen the other post 😁

That Court House is a fine-looking building. I guess there is no excuse for “I couldn’t find the courthouse!”

That is one excuse that is struck off the big book of excuses for court appearances 😂 It is a stand out feature of Inverell.

Love the Mutual Life Building and the cheerful pink courthouse, for those feeling blue as they walk inside. I was fascinated by the Municipal Building rail, but your explanation above sounds about right.

The town has some great buildings. Pity we didn’t have long to wander about. It’s not that far from here. There’s a bike race from Grafton to Inverell every year I don’t know how they get up the mountains, I’d be pooped by the first lookout.

The Tour de France is going on currently. You could pick up some handy tips watching that!

I have been watching Le Tour and seeing them on the mountain stages makes my legs sore 😂

And the thing is, those racing cyclists look like skinny wimps who might get beaten up by high schoolers!

I wonder? They made thousands of them so they must be OK made from cast iron
