Dan’s Thursday Doors
A week ago I was in Sydney and my mate wanted to visit Waverly Cemetery,
which over looks the ocean, to find some graves of some of the famous
Australian people buried there. I just meandered about without any purpose
only to find interesting things oft found in old cemeteries.
One quest was to get some vault doors to do a door series, but I thought
why drag out a sombre post although does contain some rather fabulous
doors and some not in such a good condition
A metal door as most of the vault doors are. Quite simple in design not to
detract from the rest of the building

Decorated double doors. I wonder how red these faded doors were?

Continuing with the cross theme and an embellishment. Don’t trip over the
flower receptacle

They aren’t getting out of there. Doors and gates!
I had to include the angel from the grave behind, she looked like she was
sitting in the edge of the vault

Love the studs

It was nice to see a bit of colour, almost Art Deco

Plain double doors with vents to allow the spirits to come and go at will.

This poor little sandstone construction with it’s plywood looking door. I
couldn’t get around to the other side which I hoped would have a nicer door
as that side faces the ocean.

Another wooden door in poor shape

Ornate double doors

This was the most grand set of doors that I found

Excellent set of images for this theme, Brian

I’m somehow suspicious of a grave with doors …

Can be slightly disturbing especially if it is partly open 😳

I love walking around cemeteries and I like these doors. I guess the vents are a good idea.

So do I enjoy a cemetery stroll. I imagine it would get rather hot in there in an Australian summer 🥵

I hope this isn’t a repeat (you can delete if it is). I love walking around cemeteries. This looks like a very nice one. The mausoleum doors are always interesting.

Same but different comment. The vaults doors had variety. I didn’t get to any of the mausoleums

Well, you have to end up somewhere, but I’d like my door leaving open so I can enjoy the view, please, Brian.

Thanks, it was fun finding the doors. It is rather big and I didn’t get anywhere near going around all of the cemetery

Ah the cave 😀. I haven’t seen any, so didn’t know that families have a locked, a kind of house, for their graves! Egyptian Pyramid is what had come to my mind earlier but that much before Christianity and was only for the royals.
