Dans Thursday Doors
The only church that has their doors open is the Cathedral in Grafton. All other churches aren’t open except for religious functions. It is a pleasant place to sit on a warm day as it is cool inside.

I recently went to the nearest city, Brisbane and found a couple of churches near where I was staying. This one had a modern feel

Whereas this one has been there for quite some time, probably late 19th to early 20th Century These have to be the flashest hinges I have ever found on church doors

Those are some pretty flashy hinges!

I love those hinges. I’m guessing the blacksmith had fun making those. A church with open doors always seems welcoming.

Thanks Dan, a true craftsman for sure. They are quite welcoming (although I did edit out a poorly made “Welcome” sign on one of the doors)

I don’t know why I’m always so surprised that Australia does Victorian Gothic so well. Totally illogical of me,

Victorian Gothic was the heyday of building Australia with many many trades people from The UK and Europe and well trained Aussies :).

That makes sense. And new settlers probably wanted a bit of back-home-ness in their lives.

Interesting about the open or closed doors. In England, doors were generally closed but unlocked, though I doubt that’s the case anymore. You’re right about those hinges. They’re fabulous.

Now a days they are closed and locked everywhere. There is usually someone around the Cathedral but one lady did say that they do have some thieving from time to time but there are security cameras and an office monitors

Love your arched door theme this week. The last one reminds me of lots of doors here in Melbourne.

Thanks Teresa. Melbourne is on my list of places to get to one day 🙂

I’ve seen a number of church doors in Philadelphia that look like the last one. They’re all lovely and the metal work is wonderful. I like red doors as well, so it’s a win-win. No one in Arizona would ever have an open door of any type at this time of year. It’s simply too hot outside!!

Those fabulous hinges and red doors are great I must agree Janet. On hot days I dare say the big front doors would be closed with a sigh pointing to one of the side doors 🙂
