Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: Carvings, Sculptures and Statues
This morning I went for a walk in one of Graftons oldest cemeteries. Over the years there has been vandalism which saddens me
I walked
among headstones

toppled
fractured stones

names lost
lives departed

fallen
forgotten

a century ago
no one remembers
no one cares

they lay
undisturbed

until now
fractured stones
toppled
headstones.

Wistful & beautiful post.

I always find them sad places, but peaceful on a sunny day.

It was lovely to wander about. I felt teary and sad when I came across babies graves. Lost our first baby 😥

It is always so heartbreaking when I see a headstone for a child or baby. I’m sorry Brian. ❤

Sad to hear Brian. Graveyards are such peaceful places and full of stories of one kind or another.

Would be wonderful to hear of the stories of the folk who first settled here both First Nation and the other nations.
A sad but happy stroll never the less

Wonderful words, Brian. I like to think that reading their headstones keeps their memory going.

I am so happy you like my writing Susan. Reading the headstones is one way of wanting to know more in some cases 🙂

I follow a person on Instagram who cleans/scours off very old headstones. Remarkable to see them return to “life” and be able to read about the person. Always sad to see broken and toppled headstones

I think the moss and lichens add something to some of the sandstone headstones.
