Ludwig’s Monday Window
I have a confession to make and shall do it right now.
I have been mistaken in calling what I have been posting, and might I add, enjoyable finding them for you, shades. Yes they do shade and perform a function that helps cool the houses mainly of the past.
See this photo of a very old house, held together with brown paper and string by the look of it, has both examples of the shades I have been posting. The straight ones with fancy or plain brackets or the tin or metal shades.
Well the one on the left is an awning and the one on the left is a hood awning. Yes they are awnings, which I thought were what the structures over doorways were called.

I did a confession to Ludwig and I have decided to keep the title of Shades of Grafton going for continuity.
To make it up to you, on my weekend shade searching I found the prettiest hooded awning shades ever!

The house is being done up bit by bit I reckon

You call them exactly what you like. Such things hardly occur in dull and dingy old Britain, so we’re not specialists in awning vocab.. But that could change with global warming.

Thanks Margaret. Yes climate change. Now’s the time to get on to window shade trend or make it.
A business opportunity awaits π

You are the second person to say two photos. There are three photos in the post???

I don’t know, Brian. First you say they’re shades, and now you say ‘the one on the left is an awning and the one on the left is a hood awning.’ That can’t be right! Shades or awnings, those curved green beauties are, as you say, the cream of the crop!

I call them awnings, and the first one is like we had in California. Shades, according to Google, are like blinds, roll down, flat – or sunglasses! Either way, yours are very fancy. π

I have been posting shades for almost 4 months now

Wow, you live in a very sunny area. I don’t think we have 4 months of posts of shades in Prescott. But I haven’t looked, to be honest.

It is a hot sunny place. So many of the old houses had them. Lots have gone when renos have replaced the wooden windows with aluminum and have air-con installed

I am shocked, Brian! How could you π€£π€£π€£ I think you’ve more than made up for it with these spectacular hoods. They remind me of the hoods we get on some of the (gas and real) fires here.

I know how could someone as sweet and innocent as me do such a thing π These hooded shades are the best so far that’s for sure
