Tonight

This wave
pummels me
onto the shore
the track behind closing
the track ahead indistinct
searching
a way out
of blackness

looking for
that light
a spark
to reignite my soul

finding no solace
where it
was before
within
darkness
without
an unfinished puzzle

the sky beckons
the stars faded
the moon
bright
there should be light

where has
it gone
should I
go forward
or stay
here
for eternity

words
just words
I cry for
all of us

  1. Oh, that is a powerful poem, Brian. 🤗
The feeling of hopelessness, the desperate hunt for the good to cling to.
I think it’s part of the human condition to go through it at least once–and hopefully, come out the other end with a better understanding of ourselves.

  2. Very poignant, Brian, Thank you.
It immediately reminded me of Frost’s lines …
“O Star (the fairest one in sight),
We grant your loftiness the right
    To some obscurity of cloud—
It will not do to say of night,
Since dark is what brings out your light.”
(From Robert Frost’s “Choose something like a star”)

  3. I like the poem because it could be personal to you (or the reader) or it could be caused by something like the war in Ukraine, the human condition, etc. The photo works perfectly with it.

        1. I am so sorry. I was in such a state last night and this morning wasn’t any better. Please accept my sincere apologise Phyllis ❤
