The Weekly Prompts Weekend Challenge: Boot
Lens Artists Photo Challenge #190: Close and Closer
I was going to post a range of boots as I do have quite a number. But when I went out to grab a photo of my gumboots, I just thought of the Lens_Artists challenge as well, so things just went from there.

It’s a pity John Clarke aka Fred Dagg is no longer with us. He was a fabulous comedian.
An alternative version with better vision
What fun, Brian. I love the song and your progressive shots of the gumboots. They almost look like tractor treads in the last macro. Wonderful!!!

Well Brian, you definitely gave me a smile this morning. I was unfamiliar with the term “gumboots” but I did get myself a pair of similar boots this year and it takes me back to childhood to slosh around in the puddles (altho we don’t get much rain here!). Loved the song and video. And your last image is my favorite of this set.

I am glad Tina. What do you call gumboots?

well the old-fashioned name is galoshes, we just call them boots or rubber boots

Another difference. Galoshes are more overshoe rather than a boot here. I had to do a bit of reading of why Gumboots and Wellies and found Americans also call them Rain Boots. I could go on but you’ll fall asleep π

I enjoyed the song – I wonder how many other countries call them Gum Boots? Over here those boots are known as Wellington boots, Wellies or Wellingtons.
Iβm glad you joined in, thanks, Brian π

Thanks Sue. Isn’t it funny the names as Australia and New Zealand are English settlements but Wellies didn’t make the name for Gumboots.
Here’s a bit of a history read when you have time

Excellent. Yes, Wellies or Wellingtons, at least when I lived in England. ‘De riguer’ for slogging in the rain.

Thanks John. I would be without my gumboots here. These ones a quite tough and I’ve had them for quite a while now π

Love it, Brian! And we have the same name in Swedish for them – gummi (gum) stΓΆvlar (boots)!
