My grandmother had a few clocks like the ones you’ve featured here, Brian. She even had a grandfather closk at the foot of the stairs. They were marvellous and all worked!
Unfortunately, before she went to stay at a retirement home everything went to auction and even my mother was unaware of what gran had done!
We think she was already losing here marbles.

That is so sad to lose all those wonderful working clocks. Maybe she was hoodwinked in some way by an unscrupulous dealer.

That suggestion was raised at the time ..’scuse the pun … But, mum lived 200 miles away, I was already here in Johannesburg, and my brother in Sydney, Australia. There was a lot of other stuff too, but it was all done and dusted before any of the family had time to react. Was long time ago.
C’est la vie, as they say
