Wow, that’s a massive hornet! Glad they are not that big in real life.

It is one of the big ones around here but doesn’t sting or be aggressive. When there’s one in the house they are easy to guide out of the door or window with your hand or if they are persistent, with newspaper. They have a memory of where they are building a mud nest and putting up blockages confuses them

In South Africa we also have them. It is very interesting to follow them to see what they are doing. First bit of mud building, some parralised worms in the nest, an egg in the worm. Closing the gap, make another compartment for the next egg. I never tested them to see if they would sting you, we just shooed them out of the house when they ventured inside.

The ones here stun small spiders for the live food for the larvae once the egg hatches
