What do you think?

I took this photo late in the afternoon yesterday. Going through the photos and doing a cull, this one came along. I was about to delete but something said no, don’t. I do like it but there is so much wrong about it. Therefor I am asking – would you have deleted the photo?

    1. That is the same with me. I did get a bit hoardery with some that had to go so a clean up was done. The ones that survived are as you say saved by the artists eye. Thanks for you comment Maggie 🙂 🙂

  1. Don’t delete it, Brian. I have a folder I named ‘Blur’ and it is where I keep photos like this. They are not how I wanted it to turn out, but it’s still pretty. Save it. I also have a folder named ‘Overexposed.’ Lots of stuff in there, too… 😆

    1. Thanks Susan. There are two wee beasties called Ghost Crab Spiders. One’s on the petals and the other is just in the front of the middle of the daisy. Not sure if its a face or an arse 🙂

  2. Yes. But then I am becoming ruthless. After spending three days copying photos from a backup drive which is failing I have decided I must cull a lot of dodgy images, arty or not. Only the best will remain. A task for the rainy winter days ahead!

  3. I wouldn’t delete. Firstly, because I keep many photos just for me which I wouldn’t show. I used to cull relentlessly until my nephew asked me: why? It’s not like it’s in the old days where photos took up a lot of space. As long as your organisation system is up to scratch, keep them for yourself. Secondly, if the photo speaks to you – and it obviously does – keep it. Use it as inspiration to do better next time or keep it because YOU like something about it. You’re right there are some things wrong with it but there are also things right: I like the depth of field, I like the circle of stamen, I like the perspective.

    1. My folders are way out of date so I need to spend weeks sorting photos. I used to do the daily or weekly at least now I am over 20 months behind. Thanks for you positive comment Elke 🙂 🙂

  4. If you’re having a serious cull I should delete it as I’m sure you probably have a similar one of better quality.
You put me to shame, It’s time I had a sort out. My filing system is in need of reorganisation. I file in months and years, which is a huge mistake because I can never remember which month or year I need to look. I think it would have been more efficient if I’d used categories.

    1. The others that were similar were deleted but this one made me look a couple of times. Yes categories is the way to go. My birds for instance had around 50 folders and then all the sub-folders and some have sub-sub-folders. Thanks for your comment Sue 🙂 🙂

  5. Well first up, anyone can keep anything they want for whatever reason! That said, I’d have ditched it unless that was the only photo I had of that flower or the spiders. Then I might have kept it for the record or if it was useful for identification purposes.

    1. Oh Jacquie Those Ghost Crab Spiders……yes there are two….are only 5 to 10mm and love playing hide and seek among the petals as I was trying to get a good photo of them. I’ll put you into the keep “vote” though 🙂 🙂

  6. Don’t ask me. I am notorious for ‘clearing out’ and then finding that I discarded ones I should have kept. Some of my blurry ones from years ago would now be considered quite arty and fashionable, as blur seems to be a ‘thing’ nowadays. And I recently saw that a photograph won a competition and it was just legs walking, cut off at the knee. Now, I used to have a lot of pictures where the bodies were cut off – wish I’d kept them now. I could be sitting on heaps of awards!

    1. This is the best and funniest comment Maris. Yes I must admit that I have kept a few “headless” or part body images but I am crap at people photography 🙂 🙂

      1. I was referring to my own stuff, not yours. I have yards and yards and have spent most of this evening looking for something I needed. I actually liked your pic but I could still bin it if I felt that way. Better answer? 🤔💕

    1. Where to start, overall focus is the main thing, subject blurred, a bit out of balance, background not quite right. Glad you like it and thanks for your comment Martha 🙂 🙂

  7. For me, it conveys a state of mind, a feeling, a time of year that means something to you. Beautiful composition and colour. That said, if it was mine I’d delete it – I’d want at least one thing, ideally a spider, in focus, for it to hold my attention for long.

    1. I am being more ruthless now. There were around 4 like this one, they were deleted but this one just had something about it. Thanks for your comment Cath 🙂 🙂

  8. I love that shot! It’s truly ‘of the moment’ and the tight framing and slight blurriness is just perfect for creating a feeling of temporary transience that makes is anything but a boring ‘still life’ – definitely a ‘creative keeper’ in my book 🙂

  9. NO NO NO!!
But I’m not a photographer, as you are. It’s a lovely, atmospheric photo of one of my favourite flowers… I’d love to know, technically, what you feel is so very ‘wrong’ with this beautiful image, that to me just shouts about the wonderful depth of nature.

      1. I am glad. I think it’s got the air of late summer romance… a beautifully hazy and misty scene of nature – and shows that if you look carefully, you’ll see more than at first glance; which is so often the case with our natural environment 🙂

        1. Another thing that attracted me. Most people didn’t know there was two spiders on the daisy. It was late afternoon and the sun was low in the trees that filter light onto my garden 🙂
