So isnβt it a bull, not a cow? Bulls have horns, right? Great photo β love how the birds are hanging out with the cow!

Oh Shelley should I give a lesson on cattle. Most cattle have horns male and female. Farmers dehorn them to stop damage if they fight or when they are transported to sale yards or other farms. That is a cow in the photo with the birds taking advantage of insects being stirred up. I’ll make a farmer of you yet ππ

Oh, dear, I did not know that! Thanks for educating me. Now I want to go out to our farms and ask a local farmer about their dehorning procedures. Yep, you’ll make a farmer out of me someday! π©π»βπΎπ©π»βπΎπ©π»βπΎ

Dehorning isn’t pretty and lots of breeds have the horns bred out. These are called Poll in the breed name ie Poll Hereford Here is a list I found https://beef2live.com/story-list-polled-cattle-breeds-89-106512
There you go farmer Shell π

Thanks for the educational materials. We do have some of the Angus cows in our area, but mostly the farmers have Guernsey cows. They appear to be hornless too.

My husband was on a road trip to the furthest south of Texas and got a great shot of a bull with a cattle egret on his back. Synchronicity at opposite ends of the world!

That is one of my quests to find birds on the backs of animals. I have a few now. π

What is the 19 on the cow’s ear? Number 19 out of 100 or Number 19 out of 20????

Ear tags are a means of registering your stock for identification. The colour also is part of the scheme the number is one of how many stock you own.
