Not really an Australian thing but the commercial aspect has taken over with all sorts of rubbish being sold in all manner of shops. I can see so much useless plastic ending up in landfill or cluttering peoples houses until they finally give in and throw it away.
I am concentrating on this part of the challenge ““Whenblack cats prowl, and pumpkins gleam may luck be yours on Halloween!” ~ Unknown.
This is Benny, the cat who terrorised the dogs in our street for many a year. Even after Benny died, local dogs were still too scared to come onto my property, some even crossed to the other side of the road or went home when they saw the gate posts.
He was not too impressed when I caught him sleeping with his dog, a stuffed toy that got carried around the house.
Not scary enough? Maybe this will get you a bit scared lol
First off, let me explain the title. My High School dance, which was the last one we held at the High School Hall when I was in 5th Year, was one of the best ever. Only 6th and 5th Formers were allowed to attend and the band who played were one of the foremost Aussie groups at the time whose name was Blackfeather. They were such a great group that I was them many times and they had a few line-up changes and a bit of controversy. There is a few versions of this song, one has a sort of a classical piano introduction I think Lisa would enjoy but the quality isn’t all that good.
Here is one version that brings back memories of losing a girlfriend but another girl came into my life and awakened the future man in me.
OK enough of that stuff, here are some bird with black feathers.

Day thirty-one of Becky’s Square Photo Challenge for October: Kindasquare
Yes another month of square fun is over. I looked for a bit of kind music and then just a song to match a kinda image took over. I do have a few songs left over but no photos this time. Photographers block set in a couple of days ago. I am writing this not knowing what photos to post so it looks like into the draft folder it goes until tomorrow.
The full length of this song is over fifteen minutes so I found a shortened version.
Just around for a short while to soak up the squares for October and 2020 and then I’ll be gone until the Squares return in January next year.
See you later
Here’s a finisher for Debbie 🙂 I have a few “Kind” songs left over and mentioned this to Debbie yesterday so though I should include this one just for her for Six Word Saturday
Day thirty of Becky’s Square Photo Challenge for October: KindaSquare
Second last day and I have photographers block. I had already chosen this song and couldn’t find the right image. So what better to do than play all the versions I had to find the best one for us to listen to. The introduction did help me find an image and them more of the song just sparked me and I thought of a few more.
So for once I have used more than one photo. I hope you can try a little kindness in your day.
“The world is wide. No two days are alike, nor even two hours, neither were there ever two leaves of a tree alike since the creation of all the world; and the genuine productions of art, like those of nature, are all distinct from each other.”– John Constable
This post was inspired after seeing Ali’s post All Kinds of Roses for Becky’s October Squares challenge. Ali’s rose photos are lovely and I looked to see what todays word on Maria’s photo challenge and beautiful and roses just go together.
Here’s an Aussie song to listen while you hopefully enjoy the rose slideshow.
Unlike Ali, I don’t have names for mine and can’t remember a lot of them anyway. I decided to go with a slideshow for a change.
I am not a baker but do enjoy cooking. Way back in 2012 I put a few recipes on my blog. As you Northern Hemisphere folk have a few spare pumpkins perhaps you could give this one a go.
I thought it was about time I started to put in some of my favourite recipes. I won’t claim it as all my own work but a modification/combination of other recipes that I have tried. Hope you give it a go and tell me what you think
Ingredients Pumpkin Olive oil Fresh sage leaves Pepper Sea salt Garlic Olives Soft cheese – ricotta, even a brie (remove skin) or bocconcini may work.
Quantities are up to you but don’t over crowd the baking tray with olives or sage leaves. – 8 to 10 sage leaves, a couple of handful of olives.
Cut pumpkin and garlic and place in baking tray with olive oil. Cover with cracked black pepper or peppercorn(s) of choice (I use a four peppercorn mix) and a bit of sea salt. Place in oven – 200 degrees, bake for 10/15 mins, remove from oven and place sage leaves and olives in baking tray, sprinkle a bit more olive oil and return to oven for a further 10/15 mins..
The next bit.
Pasta Baby spinach Roasted pine nuts
Cook pasta of choice (I used penne) in plenty of boiling (salted if you do normally) water and when al dente, drain and place the cooked pasta back in the pot, add the baby spinach and toss to wilt, drizzle with olive oil, then add half the roasted pumpkin and mix through.
When you serve, top the pasta with the rest of the pumpkin, the roasted pine nuts, fresh soft cheese chunks and serve immediately.
