This is April 2020

I guess you have been wondering where April went. So did I. I have been sorting and culling but still you will be quite weary by the time you get to the end. I suggest stretching, having a walk around, grabbing a drink and a snack and settle in for a long post.

I guess now everyone is awake, I should start with a sunrise at my besties

Most mornings, the Straw-necked Ibis leave their roost and head off to their feeding groundstraw-necked ibis_flting_named_caniaba_april 2020

Every morning after a bit of rain the day before or overnight I always check the rain gauge. At my besties place I usually have to work out how many frogs it rained overnightfrogs_rain gauge01_named_caniaba_april 2020
Her place has at the moment had a fantastic hatching of Green Tree Frogs. They are everywhere so we have to check before we move, pick up or do anything in the garden or on the verandahs. Even sitting down to have a cuppa you have to check the cushions lest you sit on a frog or two.frogs_rain gauge_named_caniaba_april 2020

On a walk, a Golden-headed Cisticola was singing it’s little heart out.

Back at my place, the Golden Whistlers calls were echoing in the bush. This female was quite attentive while hunting in the garden.

A new flower has emerged. I still haven’t identified the species as yet. The flower is about 10mm in size.

I am sure the Black-necked Stork would have scooped up lots in one gulp. This one was on a wetland close to town. There were quite a number of birds but the water was a bit away from the road so getting photos was difficult.black-necked stork_named_grafton_march 2020

        1. No not pets. Wild animals who like to eat the short grasses similar to sheep grazing. Being called awesome made me smile. I shall have to consult the Wallabies who come around the house 🙂 🙂

  1. It is hard to narrow it to one, at first I was going to list the cisticola, but then as I scrolled up for the spelling of it, then the wren catches my eye again…and then…another…then another… you get the picture!

  4. wow what an April Brian, just glorious. Too many stunning photos for me to have a favourite . . . you are so fortunate to have this on your doorstep, and great to see nature recovery going well after your horrendous summer

PS I would have been a bit freaked out by all the tree frogs

    1. Thank you Becky 🙂 I am feeling quite blessed and encouraged with all that abounds. Autumn and Spring are the best of seasons, warm days and cool nights and hopefully a bit of rain before the dry season. Those little frogs are so sweet, about five would fit in the palm of your hand 🙂

  5. :O :O :O No wonder it took you a while to get your April post done, Brian.
You have the best butterflies, Brian. I think I’ve said that before. I don’t know my butterflies (or bees) but you’ve answered my question about one of the orange lovelies visiting my garden. Painted lady, I think you said, but I forget. 🙂
    Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous.

  6. What a beautiful start to my day, browsing through your April! My favourite was the scarlet jezebel and the currawong.
I will be watching the local bird life on my walks each day as you have sparked my interest.
    Thank you Brian

      1. I understand. I’ve had a few things on my mind too, not the best of weeks, but it’ll all come out in the wash as they say! I’m glad you’re okay. Love to you too xx

  7. Amazing to have all those frogs everywhere, Brian! My favourite has to be the Joey. So lovely to be able to watch him grow, and to watch Ma Nature regenerating so very efficiently around you! 🙂 🙂

  8. Great post, Brian! You certainly had a colourful April. Pick a favourite? Oh, that’s a hard task. I can’t decide between the Scarlet Jezebel and the Blue Triangle butterflies–they’re both beautiful.

  9. You are catching everyone’s attention with these images. You put just about everything in here. So the dragonflies mating stood out to me. Anytime you can capture nature doing their business in their habitat, it is amazing. I really like the iridescent colors on that Ibis! Thanks for sharing and pointing me to this post. 🙂
