Debbies Quotation-inspired image
“Dodging and burning are steps to take care of mistakes God made in establishing tonal relationships!” Ansel Adams
“Tonal relationships are important for us to understand because they give us the power and choice to influence the viewer’s eye, highlighting what we as the photographer want to showcase in an image. At a basic level, a photograph is nothing more than a collection of tones and shapes. If we can look at an image and understand what the relationships between the elements are, then we can sculpt the image with more artistic intent. Understanding these relationships, I think, makes us more focused on what we are doing at the time of capture, what we may want to do later on with the image, and knowing what we want to say as artists.” Robert Salisbury
Do you think I have it right?
Do you find the image more to your liking in black and white…….
or in colour to convey the sense of tone and shape

It is 🙂 I posted the b&w but initially selected the colour version. I found the idea on tonal relationships quite interesting

You’re welcome. Have to ask …. What is Stirling Scotland like? My grandmother was from Paisley and she married a Stirling.

It was quite lovely. We arrived very late in the afternoon after a long day of wandering the Lochs. My besties grandparents came from Stirling. When we next go to Scotland, this year I hope, we will spend more time there.

I love the first four photos very much. I really cannot decide between the last two. As for the words, hmmmmm, let’s just say I don’t get it much.

Tough question. I like both the colour and the black and white, for different reasons. The black and white one because it’s so atmospheric, and the colour one because of its warmth.
