More fires November 2019

I thought I should let you know that I am safe and all is OK at my place.

The fires in the Clarence Valley and the North Coast of New South Wales are unbelievable. The smoke is thick everyday and combined with the dust blown in from farmland to the west, it is almost unbearable.

I have friends who have lost their houses, the habitat for our wonderful birds and animals is decimated and the Rural Fire Service people are doing an amazing job trying to contain fires. Strong winds are pushing fires out of the containment lines and fires are linking up creating a massive fire front. Over one thousand trained fire people are here to help from all over Australia. They are a blessing.

Last night I didn’t sleep very much and am quite tired. The changing conditions are keeping me alert. The nearest fires are around 50lms away from here and so far the winds have been keeping the fires away.

This is what I see most days on my drive home from town.

I often stop at this spot to grab a sunset photo

I was fortunate to spend the last ten days away from home in Tasmania. Clean air, green fields, cool weather and even a bit of rain. I am home recharged but the current situation is wearing me down a bit. The smoke is descending again now this morning and the smell of smoke may take some time to dissipate from my house and clothes.

Thank you to everyone who has been in contact and made sure I am safe. I love my blog family

  1. I was just listening to the news about your fires and was wondering how you were doing. They mentioned the orange skies you have captured in your photo. So glad to hear you are safe.

  2. I am pleased you’re safe, but oh dear, your nerves must be in tatters. I hear about these fires and to have them on your doorstep must be devastating.

    1. Thank you Sue 🙂 Yes I had a sleepless night last night. Have friends who have lost their home(s) yesterday 😦 The closest fire has been downgraded so hopefully the hot day and winds expected tomorrow won’t have much of an affect.

  3. A beautiful post Brian on a terrifying and sad situation. I’m glad you’re safe and hope the fires remain contained, but so sorry for your friends. And as for the wildlife 😞

    1. Thanks Becky 🙂 I was wondering if more birds and animals may head towards my place. Nothing as yet but I am a long way from the fires at this stage x

  4. Glad to hear you are safe from the fires. That’s getting a little too close for comfort, though. Makes for pretty photos, but the cost of danger, loss of homes, and wildlife is just not worth it. Keep alert!

    1. I was lucky enough to get away for just over a week to recharge. I did some scheduled posts but none while I was in Tasmania. I should have put out “I’m on holidays” post but burglars may have read it 😀 😀

    2. I have been in a smokey atmosphere since early October. My eyes are starting to sting a bit. Some of the google earth images of the fires are phenomenal showing the amount of smoke going into our atmosphere
