When it comes to fires, it is in the Australian Winter when the fires are most welcome. Summer fires bring dread and foreboding. So Summer is when I dig into the archives to see if there is a fire photo that may fit within Nancy Merrill photographys photo challenge prompt of By Firelight
The fires bring warmth in Winter and also a chance to burn-off some of the fallen debris from the forest that abounds my place. Sometimes I have to reduce the amount of fallen branches and leaves that accumulate around the house and garden.
Here is a bit of By Firelight
A fire blazes well alight

Flames swirl into the night
The many colours of the fires show

Deep within the embers glow

There is always someone,
Stick in hand,
To poke the embers
Making a sparkling sight
Shooting sparks
Into the dark of night

We had a bon-fire last night with s’mores 🙂

But…did you have s’mores?

s’mores Aren’t very Australian and I am not much of a marshmallow fan. I do make a good damper though in the fire

Really? I didn’t know that! What is a damper?

A Damper is simply sift flour and salt rub in butter until the mixture resembles fine crumbs then make a well to add milk and water. Put into a cast iron pot or wrap in foil, toss into the fire. It’s a bread of sorts 🙂

Wow! Interesting! Sounds sort of like a funnel cake only crumbly.

I love staring into a crackling fire. It’s so hypnotic. I haven’t done it for a very long time though. Years in fact. I love these shots, Brian. They are very calming. I need it today! Thanks. x
