This Iris is a memory of the bloke who lived down the road and loved gardening. He let me have this Iris which is flowering now.

Why is it called a “bearded” Iris?

The Iris can have a feathered edge.

He is still going in care in Coffs Harbour but at 85 hasn’t been well 😐

Wasn’t sure where to leave a general comment. so first post will have to do. i am totally rapt in all of your photos. everything is superb and i can see that i need to dedicate several hours to exploration of this blog. you have a lovely eye. Alex Cearns is a fave photographer and you have something like his artistic eye. this has been a pleasant foray into a picturesque world of your making. nothing would give me greater pleasure nor provide a feeling of such honor to collaborate with you if you deemed my poems to be suitable. am kind of hit and miss – looks like you are spot on. of course i realize you cleaned up your blog and fashioned it, still it is high quality. thank you so much for inviting me to come and have a sticky beak, lovely.

Thank you for your lovely words 😀 I am glad you have spent a bit of time having a look around. Perhaps some of the photos may inspire? I am glad I did the housework but if you went back into my earlier work, perhaps I may not have done the dusting back there. I will have to have a look at Alex’s work. I look forward to being able to get together and perhaps create something wonderful, lovely.

you know what always amazed me about the folks I knew that grew Irises – well it was how they had to dig unto their roots to divide and share – it was better for the plant. – such a nice message for society there – eh? how we are better and we can grow when we give a bit – or we can get all clumpy and not have room for growth….
well your old neighbor sure left something special behind with the nice purple – this sure is not a subtle bloom, is it?

I always like sharing plants & often collect cuttings from places I visit. When Geoff went into care he made sure I had many of his plants. When you grow weary of the world, there is always the garden. This Iris is spectacular & the photo doesn’t do it justice 😀
